Pupil killed by lightning in Kapenguria town

A 16-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning while herding her father’s cattle in Kapenguria town Wednesday.

West Pokot County Administration Police commander King’aa Kimeu said Ann cheyech, a Standard Seven pupil at Tomen Primary School, was struck in the afternoon while she was taking shelter under a tree following the short rains.

Her family blamed the national government for the death through its failure to end the ongoing teachers’ strike.

They said that if their daughter had been in school, she could not have been struck by lightning.
