Things get ‘Nasty’

As a top model for Splash — a high street fashion in United Arabs Emirates life, was definitely good.

Then one day on a flight to Dubai on duty, she met Nasty Thomas of Deux Vultures and fell head over heels in love.

"He was just chilled listening to music. As I served him, we locked eyes and there was an instant chemistry between us," she says.

As Nasty disembarked from the plane they exchanged contacts. Since that day telephone calls led to lunches, then to dinner parties and before the two knew it, they were enmeshed in love.

However as fate would have it, Nasty had just married Josephine Njeri. Deliah was uncomfortable dating a married man — and a husband to a colleague. But according to her, Nasty wouldn’t let go.

"She (Josephine) never caught us in bed as it was alleged. Josephine has never caught us pants down. But if sex is the fire in marriage, then sensuality is the spark that keeps it burning. Probably Josephine failed in this department," claims Deliah, defending Nasty as a man who derived something special from their affair.

However, the deeper the two plunged into the affair, the more ‘depressed’ they became. Nasty’s marriage floundered and Deliah lost her job as threats on her life mounted.

Two years on, she is now two months pregnant with the singer’s baby — whom she describes as a wonderful and affectionate friend. But Josephine having had enough of her cheating man stormed out of the marriage with their son. She is now back in Dubai where the couple had been staying before Nasty returned to Kenya mid last year.

After the story broke out a month ago, critics were quick to hand out a guilty verdict to Deliah, the former face of Dasani water. But she remains steadfast in her defence insisting that she is not to blame.

"Nasty and I have been having this steady relationship for two years. He has been my only boyfriend and that tells you that I took it seriously. Am not a home breaker. Nasty and Josephine must have had other marital problems which have led to their separation," she says.

"It hurts me that I have lost my job due to emails forwarded to my boss, waging a war against me purportedly because I had snatched a colleague’s husband I have never met Josephine as much as I sought to have dialogue with her. They even sent my mother distressing messages painting me as promiscuous," she adds. The Nasty-Deliah romantic affair is quickly metamorphosing into a soap opera. The singer is now separated from his wife of two years and Deliah is heavy with his baby. He is a man ‘caught between’ having to fight to salvage his marriage and at the same time redeem himself from public scorn.According to Deliah, even after Josephine left Nasty late last year with the couple’s son, their affair has not eased up.

"I don’t fancy Josephine’s predicament and I have told Nasty that several times. I would wish to see them back and happy and I am not standing between them".

"Sometimes I watch Nasty and get to relate with the sorrow in his heart. He picks up photos of his son, gazes at them and retreats into deep thought: For sure he misses his family and I can tell you am not stopping him," Deliah adds.

Even as critics accuse her for entrapping Nasty through pregnancy, Deliah maintains that the pregnancy was not a set-up and she should not be condemned.

"What do you make of two adults who have been in a romantic affair for two years. Is it strange to know that they have been having sex?" She poses. "I never fell for Nasty because of his celebrity status. I haven’t been dating Nasty the musician in public spotlight but Thomas the laid-back man. Our friendship has been natural," she reiterated.

"I lost my job because of this affair. I’m out in the streets looking for a job and thinking I will soon be a mother. I don’t plan to go back to Dubai but I am sticking with my modelling career," she maintains.

Deliah started off as a catwalk model gracing local fashion events such as the annual Kenya Fashion Week before landing on the big stage in the Middle East where she has lived for five years.

She then got a contract with, Splash, a well-known high street fashion brand based in Dubai and with branches in India. The brand has been a trendsetter, appealing to the fashion conscious youth who like to follow the latest international trends.

"The deal with Splash has been lucrative. I have been one of their top models showcasing their autumn, winter and summer fashions all over the world".

As time went on, she says she got caught out between the airlines job and modelling. "I would often miss my flight attendant assignments and my enemies used this as an excuse to get me fired," she remarks.
