DP Ruto: Sell your agenda instead of castigating mine

Deputy President William Ruto has asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to explain the complexity of the orange in ODM instead of criticising his wheelbarrow symbol.

Ruto yesterday asked his critics not to be consumed by the simplicity of the wheelbarrow, saying it represents a comprehensive economic model dubbed bottom-up.

“You can as well tell us the complexity of the orange if you wish instead of being obsessed with the simplicity of the wheelbarrow,” he said.

Ruto hosted a delegation of grassroots, political and religious leaders from Makueni at his Karen residence, pitching for their support even as he said Kenyans were no longer confident of the opposition. He said when opposition leaders had a chance to drive the government agenda, they demonstrated beyond doubt that they had no capacity, will or plan to move the country forward.

“How, then, do you expect Kenyans to believe that you will implement what you are promising now?” he posed.

The DP said the opposition stood no chance in leading the country since they do not have any development track-record to boast of despite serving in government for several years.

Present in Karen were MPs Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Victor Munyaka (Machakos), Vincent Musau (Mwala), Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu) and former MPs Nduya Muthama (Machakos County), Gideon Ndambuki (Kaiti), Regina Ndambuki (Kilome) and Nguu/Masumba ward aspirant Masika Mweu.

Ruto said opposition leaders had squandered the opportunity to showcase their capacity as leaders in both the previous governments they served and the current one they joined after the Handshake.

“Kenyans are going to judge all of us on the basis of our track records, our commitment and what we can do given an opportunity,” he said.

He said he was focused on bringing leaders together to help him implement the bottom-up economic model.
