Governor Kivutha Kibwana must face nominations for Wiper ticket, says Muthama

Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama

Senator Johnstone Muthama wants Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana to face nominations as he bids to defend his seat in the August polls.

He said the governor should not be handed direct nomination on account of a deal recently signed between the Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Democratic Movement and Prof Kibwana's Muungano party.

Muthama who spoke at Mulu Mutisya gardens in Machakos Town on Tuesday criticised the agreement which he said should not disadvantage other aspirants for the seat.

"The agreement between Kivutha and Kalonzo has fueled speculations Wiper will give direct nomination to the governor to defend his seat in the August 8 elections yet he is not even a member of our party," said Muthama.

"Although our party leader entered the deal with Kibwana, we hold the position all members are equal and must be given the same treatment because favouritism is making many aspirants shy from seeking Wiper's ticket," Muthama said.

Since inception

He added: "Kivutha has never contributed even Sh5 to the party and has also been fighting our party. He should know the party has generals who have defended it since its inception."

This came as some Wiper MPs demanded Muthama be removed from the team that is working to pick the National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer and replaced by Kibwana.

At a recent rally in Kathiani attended by Kibwana, Wiper MPs Robert Mbui (Kathiani), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Peter Mathuki (EALA) and Susan Musyoka (Machakos County) rooted for the inclusion of the governor in the NASA negotiation team.

This followed claims the Machakos Senator is leaning toward ODM leader Raila Odinga who is contesting against Mr Musyoka, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya).

Yesterday, Mbui questioned why Muthama has suddenly turned against Kibwana yet he's been urging him to fold his party and join Wiper.
