DCI officers thwart robbery attempt at Migori hotel

The officers of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations thwarted a robbery attempt at a hotel situated on the outskirts of Migori town Monday morning.

According to the DCI report, the officers based in the area got tipped of a planned robbery incident at Allaxis Hotel along Migori-Rongo road, after which they moved to counter the raid.

The officers said that six armed robbers arrived on motorcycles and started firing at them despite ordering them to surrender. This prompted a fire exchange in which one officer was shot on the shoulder and two thugs wounded.

DCI statement partly read: “The six were challenged to surrender but instead fired at the detectives. During the shootout, two suspects were fatally injured but the rest escaped with gunshot wounds. A DCI detective was also shot on the right shoulder and is currently receiving treatment.”

The officers later seized a number of items from the suspects. “One AK 47 Rifle loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition, a torch, a rungu among other items were recovered. The pursuit for the escaped suspects is ongoing,” DCI statement further read.

Migori County has in the past experienced insecurity. On December 7, 2019, for instance, thugs raided a mining site at Nyatike Sub-County and killed one Chinese national and wounded two others. The trio was attached to Yuang Dong Kenya Mining Company which secured mining rights to work in the area.
