Over 1,000 needy students in Kisumu Central will benefit from Sh10 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Area MP Ken Obura said the CDF also allocated Sh1.7 million to the physically challenged students when he issued cheques to secondary school heads in the constituency.

The legislator urged recipients to apply for the fund within the set period to give the bursary committee enough time to short-list qualified candidates.

"We are committed to distributing the fund equally and ensure needy students receive an education," said Mr Obura.

Obura challenged Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi to restore school ranking, saying it was the only way of rewarding hard work. Sub-county Director of Education Allois Mwita thanked the CDF committee for being sensitive to education.
