‘The Standard’ feted for promoting western Kenya artists

Kisumu, Kenya: The Standard Group was feted as the Media House Partner of the year in the just-concluded Lake Victoria Basin Film and Theatre Awards 2013.

The event organised by Lake Victoria Basin Film Makers Guild, recognised The Standard newspaper for being dedicated to promoting artists from Western region.

Standard Group correspondent Maureen Odiwuor won the 2013 Media Art Support Journalist of the Year in the Film and Performing Arts category. Citizen TV’s cameraman, Justus Netia, was the first runner-up and Nation Media Group’s Moses Odhiambo was the second runner-up in the Media category.

The Contemporary Dance for Outstanding Performances category was won by Yawa Dancers followed by Hottrax Dancers while The Best Film Production award went to Nedia Onyango of Maseno University.

Ivy Keziah from the same institution was awarded a trophy and certificate for the Best Poem titled A Real Lady.
