By Ali Abdi | February 6th 2016

A suspected Al-Shabaab member, believed to be behind a series of deadly attacks in Mandera has been arrested by police in Isiolo town.

The police, while on regular patrol in the sprawling Bulapesa estate bumped into the suspect while he was on his way to a kiosk to buy cigarettes at night.

The police arrested the suspect on a day they declined to disclose arguing that they had to first liaise with their counterparts in Mandera for verification.

Ahmed Yare, 27 believed to be a Kenyan but without an ID, had fresh gunshot wounds on his back.

Yesterday, Isiolo County Criminal Investigation Officer David Cheruiyot said Isiolo and Mandera police believe the suspect was among the Al-Shabaab militia who attacked the Nairobi bound bus and quarry workers in Mandera among other incidents.

Al-Shabaab was blamed for the December 2, 2014 attack on Kenyan workers at a quarry in Mandera.
