A court yesterday heard that the vehicle which former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru was travelling in was in good condition when it was involved in a road accident along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway.

In his testimony at Gakuru's death inquest before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo, investigation officer Paul Karung’o said the vehicle had no defects prior to the accident.

He said an inspection report by Sascha Ebel, an expert from Germany's Gotleb Daimler indicated that the vehicle had no pre-accident defect.

The inspection was conducted after the vehicle was towed from Makuyu Police Station to the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

Further, he said the vehicle had no maintenance issues.

Gakuru died on November 7, 2017 when his official car was involved in a grisly accident.

Earlier on, State prosecutor Kennedy Magoma had applied to have senior county officials including governor Mutahi Kahiga record statements before they testify at the inquest. Others to record statements include Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and county secretary Benjamin Gachichio. Mention is on November 1.
