Uhuru drives in Nairobi town to inspect NMS projects

President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the city on Saturday to inspect more projects being implemented by Major-General Mohamed Badi’s Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

President Uhuru's first stop was at the Nairobi Railway Station where he inspected the ongoing refurbishment of the station.

The president drove himself to the Station in a police car with his security, Badi’s and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi’s vehicles in tow, surprising matatu operators at the railway bus stop.

Unlike the usual presidential motorcade, there were only about five vehicles accompanying him as he drove the lead vehicle.

Uhuru then drove to Mombasa Road for inspection of other projects.

Weekend drives in the city to inspect projects being implemented by NMS have become characteristic of the President. Today was his second stop at Railways.

Last week, President Kenyatta made a tour of the city on Saturday night to check on the ongoing construction of sidewalks in the Central Business District.

His forays also led him to Kirinyaga Road and later to Thika Road, Outering Road, and Jogoo Road.

President Kenyatta also visited a market that is under construction along Kangundo Road at about 2am before leaving. The motorcade later visited Eastleigh and Juja Road. He also visited projects in Mukuru slums and Railways area in the CBD.

The president’s itinerary has given focus to the efforts to revamp the city.

For the week past, the president has been in public with Badi on three occasions.

On Friday, he commissioned the refurbished Michuki Memorial Park. Earlier in the week, Mr Kenyatta alongside Badi and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko handed out title deeds to landowners in Nairobi County.
