The wife of Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Ukur Yattani has been appointed in two government posts.

Dr Gumato Yatani landed a job in the Ministry of Education after CS George Magoha, in a Gazette notice dated November 8, appointed her to be the chairperson of Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology Council.

Her tenure started on November 8 and she will serve for a period of three years.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 36 (1) (a) of the University Act, 2012, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints Gumato Ukur Yatani to be the chairperson of JKUAT council for a period of three years with effect from 8th November 2019,” read the notice.

At the same time, she will be part of a task force formed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives which will be reviewing the quality and standards of infrastructure.

Dr. Yatani and thirteen others will also evaluate the management of Kenya Bureau of Standard (Kebs).

The task force will make a report on their review and submit it to CS Peter Munya in two months’ time after which their services will come to an end.

 “The Taskforce shall be answerable to the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Industry, Trade and Co-operatives and remain in office for a period of two months from the date of publication of this notice,” read the Gazette notice.

Dr Gumato Yatani served as a commissioner at the National Gender and Equality Commission from April 11, 2013.

She holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Education degree from Moi University.

Gumato once worked as an undersecretary in the Office of the President and a board chair for the Integrated Pastoralist Development (IPAD)

Along with her husband Ukur, she founded the Kanacho Nomadic Educational Foundation in 2009, a charitable foundation that addressed education and rural poverty challenges in northern Kenya.
