Nigerian arrested with cocaine worth Sh2million at JKIA

NAIROBI, KENYA: A Nigerian  was Friday morning  arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi with cocaine valued at more Sh2 million.

The man had arrived from Ethiopia and was to connect to Lagos when he was found with the drugs

Police say he had originated from Sao Paolo, Brazil connected to Ethiopia, JKIA and was to leave for Lagos Nigeria when he was arrested. His luggage had 38 pellets of white powder believed to be cocaine stuffed in a chocolate tin.

Head of Airport CID Joseph Ngisa said preliminary findings show the man had also inserted several pellets to his anal system.

“He is under observation to emit the pellets he has in his body. We will then know what to do with him and will go to court may be Monday,” he said.

Ngisa added they had taken the earlier recovered samples of the drugs to the government chemists for further analysis and that the value may increase.

The arrest came two days after two other Nigerians were arrested at the same airport with cocaine valued at more than Sh4 million.

The man and woman were headed for Cameroon when they were intercepted at the airport on Wednesday morning. They had inserted pellets of cocaine to their anal system when they were arrested.

Police said they have so far emitted more than 70 pellets after being put in an observation room and that they had originated from Sao Paolo, Brazil connected to Ethiopia, JKIA and were to leave for Cameroon when they were arrested. They have so far been charged in court.

The arrests are the latest in a series in a sting that is aimed at stopping the usage of JKIA as a transit point.
