The Independent Electoral and boundaries commission today suspended Mr. James Oswago (CEO/Commission secretary), Mr. Wilson Shollei (Deputy Commission secretary-support services), Mr. Edward Karisa ( Finance and Procurement Director) and Mr. Willy Kamanga (Ag. Procurement Manager) for the charges they are facing in court over corruption claims. This is according to section 62 (1) of the Anti-corruption and Economic crimes Act.

The law requires that a public officer, who is charged with corruption or economic crimes to be suspended, with effect from the date of the charge till proceedings against him/her are discontinued, acquitted or convicted.

Consequently the commission has appointed new members of staff to replace them.

Mrs. Betty Sungura-Nyabuto is the acting Ag. Chief executive officer/ Commission secretary, Mr. Jason Ngute Akoyo  the acting Finance and procurement Director while Mr. Bernard Nyachieyo  will be the acting Ag. Procurement Manager.

IEBC’s however maintains that the suspended officers are innocent until proven guilty, and that the body’s mandate still continues and the ongoing changes will not affect the operations and by-elections scheduled to happen.
