Private chopper crashes into Lake Nakuru shortly after takeoff

A private chopper crashed into Lake Nakuru shortly after takeoff from a hotel in the town on Saturday.

A senator allied to the Jubilee Party confirmed that the chopper had members of her team.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika affirmed that three of the five people onboard were members of her media team.

She, however, did not reveal their names.

The five were heading to Narok to accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta and other Jubilee Party leaders for a campaign rally.

NDMU activated a National Police Service chopper to support Nakuru County Disaster Team in the search operation.

Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha also confirmed that KWS boats would assist in the mission.

Recovery efforts are still underway spearheaded by the Navy, National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) and the Red Cross.
