Uhuru pledges to support creative arts

MOMBASA, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to construct an ultra-modern national theatre and national film school to support creative arts.

He said his Government is committed to developing talent in arts, and in line with Vision 2030.

“In that respect, we will establish a Kenya Film School and construct an ultra-modern National Theatre,” he announced.

The President exuded confidence that through training, talented youth specialising in music, dance, film and theatre can be prepared to pursue professional careers in these fields. Uhuru said he was committed to investing in arts and entertainment sectors, which will not only create jobs, but also promote tourism. 

The President spoke after being entertained by winners of the just concluded drama festivals in Mombasa, on Friday. Meanwhile, Uhuru said he will serve all Kenyans?without discrimination and his Government is ready to work with all leaders irrespective of party affiliation. “I give you my pledge that as the President of Kenya, I am leader of all and I want to work with all for the benefit of this?nation,” he said. He spoke at State House Mombasa last evening during?a meeting with leaders from all counties in the Coast region.

Saying the country needs to move forward after the election, President Uhuru said elections should not be used to create enmity?among Kenyans, but be viewed positively as a democratic process.

He said elected leaders were chosen by Kenyans in the?belief they would serve them well but that would not be achieved if they engage in endless bickering.??

He said he had put aside politics and would travel across the country to hold talks with leaders to strategise on how to work?together.
