Leaders hiding behind prayers rallies to attack rivals, preach divisive politics

Christians believe prayers can provide answers to problems. They believe that when one is confronted with a major dilemma, prayers are a way out. But to communicate with God requires humility and total submission.

For God‘s intercession, a serene environment is critical. Jesus often advised his disciples to retreat to a quiet place for prayers.

Is that the situation in our country today? Present day prayer sessions are often very casual, and sometimes some demand cash before they can pray for others.

When a prayer session is turned into a platform to insult and vilify others, then something is terribly amiss.

How did we get to the level where places of worship are turned into political platforms? Are our politicians holy enough to preside over prayers and give sermons?

If you want to hold prayers, go to   church, not an open field. Implore the men and women of God to intercede to God on issues affecting the nation.

Just like in the Mosaic times, the prophets used to pray for the leaders. Our leaders ought to do the same.

What we are witnessing is pollution of holy sanctuaries by the political class. I urge the clergy to keep politics out of the church and ask politicians to act with decorum during a church service.

The church should not be used to settle political scores.
