Elsewhere the national assembly is set to meet next week to vet the proposed new commissioners at the IEBC. The special sitting will consider recommendations of the justice and legal affairs committee on the new team. Last week, the president nominated seven persons to the commission including advocate Wafula Chebukati who is the proposed chairman. Chebukati has come under sharp scrutiny since then with some critics accusing him of impropriety during a case he handled for the county government of Nairobi. There are also questions about regional balance since he hails from the same region with the IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba. Meanwhile, the national assembly’s legal affairs committee will tomorrow begin vetting the proposed chair of the EACC Eliud Wabukala. Wabukala is a former archbishop of the Anglican Church.
