Hellen Obiri emerges women's champion in the 10km KDF cross country championships

5,000 metres world champion Hellen Obiri successfully defended her title after emerging the women's champion in the 10 kilometre finals, during the 38th edition of the Kenya Defence Forces cross country championships that took place in Nairobi on Friday. 

Obiri made an effortless run for the finish line to end the race after 32 minutes 19.5 seconds. 

Thika's airbase Irene Kamais took second place as Deborah Samum finished 3rd. In the men's race, Kibiwott Kandie came in first after 28 minutes 55.7 seconds. 

He was followed suite by Lawi Kosgei and Vedic Cheruiyot in 3rd place respectively. The cross country championships are set to feature the Kenya Police and the Kenya Prisons in its second day on Saturday.
