President Uhuru Kenyatta has proposed a reduction of the controversial value-added tax on petroleum products from 16 percent to eight percent.

The president says further delay in the implementation of the tax would compromise the government’s ability to deliver basic services and realization of its development agenda.

The president has also proposed a raft of austerity measures across all arms of government to plug in financial gaps in the budget.
