The Magistrate James Mwaniki ruled that Nzomo will serve 10 years in prison and the remaining two under probation.
Nzomo faced charges of causing grievous body harm to his wife, Evelyn Mwende.

On August 3, 2018, before Senior Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki, Nzomo pleaded guilty to the offense. He, however, pleaded with the magistrate to give him a lenient sentence as he is the sole breadwinner for his family. The court heard that on July 30, 2018, at around 1700 hours, Nzomo unlawfully did grievously harmed  Mwende at Kyaaka village.

The court ruled that the suspect be remanded at Makueni Police Station until today when he was sentenced. Nzomo’s wife who is currently at Nairobi Women’s Hospital for treatment has vowed to divorce him. Nzomo was arrested last week in Kibwezi after the video of him beating his wife went viral on social media. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji then directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to look for Nzomo and have him arraigned in court.
