Why CS Matiang'i is annoyed with Indian construction workers

25th May, 2018

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has expressed displesure with renewal of work permits for workers of Indian descent.

In a video shared across social media platforms, Dr. Matiang'i is seen questioning officials of the immigration department on why they are quick to renew permits for foreigners.

Dr. Matiang'i especially took issue with the renewal over what he described as work that many Kenyans are capable of doing.

"As a Kenyan do you think we do not have people who can work as [construction] site managers? A job which only requires one to oversee operations at a construction site? Is there no Kenyan that can do that work?" Matiang'i posed to officials.

The video continues to show Matiang'i further expressing displeasure with continued renewal of work permits for foreigners at the expense of citizens.
