New program launched to end female genital mutilation (FGM) in Samburu and Marsabit counties.

A new program has been launched to end female genital mutilation (FGM) in Samburu and Marsabit counties.The project dubbed ‘Koota Injena’ is aimed at reducing FGM cases among Borana and Samburu communities through community dialogues within a period of three years.Chief administrative secretary in the ministry of public service, gender and youth affairs Rachel Shebesh advised communities against negative aspects of culture that infringe on human rights such as FGM. Shebesh said the government is committed to implementing anti?FGM laws and ensure the practice is stopped.
