SPOTLIGHT2017: Politicians raise queries on whether IEBC is ready to conduct free and fair elections

24th November, 2016

Is the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) fully prepared to conduct the 2017 general elections? Well politicians from the opposition have already started raising queries on whether the commission is ready to conduct a free and fair elections given that they are lagging behind by 3 months in their timelines, there are no new commissioners until early January, procurement of new technology and testing is yet to take place and already a tender awarded to a Dubai printing firm to print ballot papers is being challenged before the public procurement review board. But as Chris Thairu reports, the head of the IEBC secretariat Ezra Chiloba has defended the commission saying they are doing everything to recover the wasted time hence politicians should not interfere with the process.
