The European Union through the European investment bank has committed 123m euros or about 13.8 billion shillings grant for the extension of Olkaria vi in Naivasha. The move is a big boost to geothermal exploration with the project expected to generate an extra 70 megawatts to the national grid. A delegation from several e-u countries visited the geothermal rich area of Olkaria in Naivasha, with the members praising the country for its commitment in increasing the exploration of renewable energy and promised more support. The grant has been put together by several financier banks. Works on the extension of Olkaria vi will start in January 2017.
