Tension is high between pastoralists and farmers in Mpeketoni, Lamu
18th June, 2016
Security chiefs from Kenya’s coast region convened an urgent security meeting amidst tension in Lamu county between two communities. Tension was high between pastoralists and farmers after a recent attack where one person was killed and four others were injured. Crops were also destroyed and over 40 cows killed. The meeting called by coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa came as a result of tension and plans of retaliatory attacks within Mpeketoni sub-county. The latest attack occurred at Ramusi village where it is claimed that pastoralists had driven their cows into a maize plantation leading to a confrontation. Marwa instructed the ocpd to trace and arrest those behind the attacks.
