Brian George's Bio

"Journalism is divine calling to public service," Branji, 2019.

Brian George Otieno, alias Branji is a journalist with the Standard Media Group PLC. Currently, he is a News Anchor, Business Reporter, Standard Newspaper Columnist, Radio Host at Vybez Radio, Show Producer and multitalented multimedia journalist.

His dream of becoming a journalist was birthed at the age of 12, then watching veterans in the industry anchoring news on TV. He then decided he'd get a platform to champion national conversations and communicate their impact. He had the option of Law, but as fate would have it, he didn't even manage to do Journalism as his first course.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Management from Moi University and a higher diploma from The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communication courtesy of Standard Media Academy (SMA). The SMA is a premiere traineership that the Standard Group holds after every two years to pick fresh graduates from university to join the coveted media house. Branji was in the 2019 lot, which was the third SMA cohort.

Branji loves Startup and SME Conversations which is why he pioneered and produced a segment called The Innovator which focuses on showcasing Kenyan developers, small businesses unique tech related innovations and more. The Innovator started in 2 Nov, 2020 and airs every Monday at 3pm and 9pm on Business Today show and KTN Prime respectively. Prior to that there's a radio interview at Vybez Radio every Monday between 9-10am.
The digital and print versions of the broadcast stories run every Wednesday.

Catch Branji Anchoring and reporting news on KTN News, with emphasis on Business Today.

He is also a techie, who is the brains behind Techfile, the only tech show that runs on KTN News on Sunday 8-9pm, which he also presents.

He has cross-platform media experience as a TV Anchor, Presenter, Radio Host and Production, writing, interviewing and live experience media engagement. He has experience in hard news, entertainment, business news, human interest, environmental, technology and politics. His role model and biggest career inspiration is Larry Madowo, CNN journalist who hails from Siaya County Kenya, just like Branji.

Branji is a born again Christian who believes in God. When he's not in the newsroom or studio, he loves traveling, business, reading and watching real life movies, documentaries and video gaming and being comical because he is also very funny.
