Activist Edwin Kiama to spend a night in police cells awaiting ruling on his bail application

7th April, 2021

Human rights activist Edwin Kiama will spend the night at the central police station, awaiting a ruling on his bail application on Thursday. The activist has been charged with contravention of computer misuse and cyber law and publishing false information about president Uhuru Kenyatta. The activist did not take a plea. The prosecution had earlier requested to have the suspect detained for 14 days to allow for completion of investigations, an application that was opposed by Kiama’s lawyers, Martha Karua and Harun Ndubi. Kiama is in trouble for asking the IMF not to grant Kenya more loans.
