Uchumi supermarket announces the closure of two stores in Uganda

Operational changes are coming in thick and fast for Uchumi supermarkets, with the retailer announcing the closure of two stores in Uganda. The move comes as part of reorganization of the business led by new CEO Julius Kipng’etich in an effort of making the stores profitable. Uchumi, which operates 37 stores in the region, announced a pretax loss of 262 million shillings for the half year to Dec. 31. Part of the reason for this has been the poor location of stores that have failed to rake in revenue for Uchumi
