At least six Laikipia schools closed after bandits shot, injured two police reservists

14th July, 2018

Six schools in Laikipia west were yesterday closed after parents withdrew their children in protest over the resurgence of insecurity in the area. This follows the rising cases on banditry attacks that have seen hundreds of animals stolen in the recent past. Among them is Nyakinyua primary and secondary schools, Makutano primary and secondary schools, Njorua secondary and Wangwachi primary schools. On Monday, bandits raided Wangwachi village where they shot and injured two police reservists. They later made away with 40 heads of cattle which are yet to be recovered. Local residents withdrew their children from school and marched for over ten kilometers to Kinamba town to protest insecurity.
