40% of school children do not access education in a language they understand

A new paper by UNESCO’s global education monitoring report says that 40% of schoolchildren do not access education in a language they understand. The policy paper was released ahead of the international mother language day on 21 February. It raises the argument that being taught in a language other than their own, can negatively impact children’s learning, especially for those living in poverty.
