10, Feb 2016

Two police officers accused of killing fourteen year old Kwekwe Mwandaza at her home in Kinango on August 2014 have now been convicted of manslaughter. The two former kinango DCIO Veronicah Gitahi and police constable Issa Mzee have been remanded a port police station awaiting the determination of their sentence this Friday. High Court Judge Martin Muya cancelled bond for the duo after the prosecution raised security concern of Kwekwe’s kin. Ahead of Fridays decision.today’s judgement yet again opens the gruesome pages of the heinous murder of the primary school girl who died by the bullet in the dead of the night allegedly triggered by the officers as they searched for a murder suspect said to be a kin of the family. Kwekwe’s case has been on the radar of human rights crusaders. A case that would attract lots of attention prompting a court order that would see even the exhumation of her remains for an independent autopsy to be conducted.
