15th January, 2016
2015 Dakar rally runner-up Paulo Goncalves crashed out of this year's race. He was airlifted to hospital after a fall from his motorbike left him unconscious on stage 11 between la rioja and San Juan in Argentina. Australia's toby price remains the overall leader. Nasser al-attiyah grabbed his second victory in the car category. The defending champion trailed sebastien loeb and rally leader Stephane Peterhansel for most of the day. But a quick last section saw him finish over five minutes faster than second-place loeb. Peterhansel finished in fourth, taking another step towards overall victory. The only change in the top 10 after stage 11 saw Nani Roma move in front of Cyril Despres in sixth after the Frenchman stopped to tow Loeb.
