Christmas comes early for retired teachers after Supreme Court ruled in their favour

11, Dec 2015

Kenya’s Supreme Court has ordered the government to release 42 billion shillings to over 52, 000 retired teachers after a bruising court battle of 12 years. In the ruling of the case dating back to 1997 when most of the teachers retired, the judges said the government speedily release the money as the case raises serious implications on future pension disputes. The teacher’s lawyer Domic Kimatta said over 800 of the teachers have died without enjoying the money and urged TSC to move with speed to ensure the remaining teachers receive their money in time.
