Why National Assembly has to extend the date for Constitutional Bills
25th August, 2015
The National Assembly will this afternoon continue debating a motion seeking to extend the August 27th constitutional deadline within which at least 28 bills have to be passed. The special motion was moved by the chairman of the constitution implementation oversight committee Chairman Njoroge Baiya after it became apparent that parliament will not manage to pass the laws ahead of the five year deadline. The government wants to extend the timeline by one year. Parliament faces a risk of dissolution for failing to pass the laws within the stipulated timelines.
