Drama ensued as Nyeri residents protest burial of a member of Kirichi village in a traditional land

08, Aug 2014

There was drama in Kirichu village in Nyeri County when residents of the area blocked one family from burying an elderly woman in the parcel of land the family had marked for burial. The residents of Kirichu colonial village said the woman could not be buried on that land as it was not the property of the bereaved. They said they bury their dead in the public cemetery and could not therefore allow the family of Heth Wairimu to bury her in the village. Her family had no choice but to source for another spot for burial. The deceased was later laid to rest in an adjacent piece of land opposite the colonial village said to be the property of a family member.
