Scrap metal seizure in Mombasa

9th April, 2014

A consignment of copper wires worth 5 million shillings has been recovered in a scrap metal go-down in miritini, mombasa county. The wires are suspected to belong to the kenya power and lighting company, however the company’s regional manager haid yussuf is yet to confirm if they do. Yussuf says the organization looses millions of shillings when vandals steal cables and destroy their property especially transformers. The secretary general of the kenya scrap metal dealers association irshad sumra who is also embakasi west member of parliament however came into the defence of the scrap dealers claiming that the cables which kenya power had intercepted did not belong to the parastatal.
