Nakuru Champion Stakes tops racing card

By Squirrel

We are coming towards the end of the season and tomorrow we shall see the pick of the two year olds in the Nakuru Champion Stakes (3.00pm). Caricature, who was beaten _ lengths by Namunyak in the Lesukut Suppliers Owners/Breeders Trophy could be effective in the Champion Stakes. She had quite a hard race last Sunday. Triolet from the same stable may be her greatest threat.

Due to lack of entries the Harry Deakin Memorial Bowl had to be cancelled. The first race (12.45 pm) is for ratings 14-24. Andaman Island has had many chances but continues to let his admirers down. Rappers Delight keeps knocking at the door. Perhaps he will prevail here. Danger from Sandy Bay.

Whirligig, on a process of elimination, has at last a chance in the three year-olds Maiden Terms (1.15pm) but somehow I have a secret feeling for Mchezo Leo to beat the gelding.

Not much danger of a turn up in the ratings 21-32 (1.50pm) where Bunny Chow (SAF) is my NAP selection.

Camelay, winner of the Kenya Oaks 2009 despite top weight should be able to take care of the ratings 26-36 (2.25pm) in a not very strong contest. However, the older Spoonerism may be a better proposition.

Spennymoor may follow up with another win in the ratings 26-36 after scoring convincingly by 2- 3/4th lengths over Pierino on June 21, and Calculated Risk, second in the OBTS Sales Race would appear to have little to bother her in the 2 y.o. Maiden Terms (4.05pm) — Golden Ash runner-up.

We are now fast approaching the end of the season and a wealth of prestigious races on the July 19 including the Steward Cup.
