9 shortlisted as State seeks to fill medical services post

Nine candidates have been shortlisted for the position of Director of Medical Services (DMS).

They include acting DMS Jackson Kioko and Kiambu County Director of Clinical Services Andrew Toro, who is also the chief executive officer of Thika Level Five hospital.

Dr Kioko has served in the position for the last six months after it fell vacant following the promotion of Nicholas Muraguri to Health Principal Secretary.

Other shortlisted candidates are Anisa Ahmed Omar, Pacifica Kerubo Onyancha, Peter Kipkoech Cherutic, Samuel Odhiambo Were, John Masasabi Wekesa, William Kiberenge Maina and Joseph Kimagut Sitieni.

The Ministry of Health yesterday put up the names of the candidates for interviews, which will be conducted by the Public Service Commission over two days starting July 4.

The successful candidate will serve for a five-year renewable contract and earn a salary of between Sh655,875 and Sh874,500 per month. This is inclusive of remunerative allowances of 40 per cent.

The Director of Medical Services is the Government's principal adviser on medical and public health matters.

The holder of the position is also the Registrar of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

He/she is responsible for providing technical advice to the Cabinet Secretary in addition to working with other departments, agencies and county governments.
