COUNTIES
By Olivia Odhiambo | January 27th 2016

Siaya, Kenya: A police officer and two civilians were charged Tuesday at Siaya Law Courts for attempted to abduct of a school principal and posing as anti-graft agency officers.

Brian Nyikuri, Samwel Okoth alias Detrick Otieno and Janet Adhiambo Anyango alias Judith Awuor Okoth were each released on a Sh500,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh200,000 after pleading not guilty before Siaya Resident Magistrate Celesa Okore.

On the first count, the three were charged with impersonation, contrary to Section 385 of the Penal Code.

The court heard that on January 22 at Sawagongo High School in Kagilo, Gem, the accused persons lied to Swagongo High School principal, Samwel Kaunda, that they were Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission officers.

The trio then arrested the principal for allegedly soliciting money from Mr Okoth, which was false, according to police, who confirmed the school head had not committed any offence.

The suspects were also charged with possessing forged currency notes contrary to Section 35 of the Penal Code.

On count four, the three were charged with wrongful confinement of the principal contrary to Section 263 of the Penal Code.

The case will be mentioned on February 8 and heard on April 4.
