County Weekly (sister newspaper to The Standard) Regional Editor John Oywa was also recognised for being instrumental in the coverage of art and was awarded a media art support certificate.

Journalists were being recognised for their efforts in extensive reporting in art, film, theatre and cultural matters in western Kenya.

The best feature film award went to Kalang’o Youth Group’s film Beyond the Horizon, while the late Prof Francis Imbuga was recognised as the most outstanding theatre personality.

Maseno University’s Leticia Kalai, a Communication and Media Technology student, was awarded the best and most promising actress. The institution scooped a majority of awards in the colourful event.
