Job Description Background of the project The Airbel Impact Lab (Research & Innovation at the International Rescue Committee - IRC) is looking for a consultant to design graphics and create communication products including videos. This will include a set of icons and graphics to demonstrate research methodologies and results (main audience: IRC partners and clients), as well as brochures / briefs to present our research approach, priorities, and ways of working (main audience: IRC country program and technical staff). The IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees, IDPs, and others affected by war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and in 22 U.S. cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. We address both the immediate, life -saving needs of conflict-affected people in an emergency and the reconstruction needs in post-conflict societies. The Airbel Impact Lab, IRC’s hub for research and innovation, supports the various technical units across the IRC to conduct or backstop research studies and innovation projects, and also leads initiatives that provide resources for country programs to design and implement programs based on evidence.We conduct this research across IRC’s outcome areas of health, economic wellbeing, safety, power, and education. The Consultant Will Be Expected To Scope of Work:
Get familiarized with IRC’s and Airbel’s branding and existing icons / graphics library
Get familiarized with Airbel’s research products and methods, approach and priorities, including meeting with IRC research staff to better understand needs
Propose a set of graphics / icons and get feedback from IRC research staff
Draft and graphically design communications documents to communication: how we conduct research and generate evidence at the IRC; what are our standards and best practices, including dissemination of the Airbel’s humanitarian research toolkit (including a video introduction); and how we can improve programs through uptake of research evidence.
Create a library of graphics to better communicate research findings to communities and partners
Creating briefs / brochures to share Airbel’s research approach and methods
Create a short video to introduce users to the Airbel humanitarian research toolkit
Demonstrated experience in developing communication products for various audiences (applicants will be asked to share a sample of their past work - icon graphics, printed layout work, and / or video)
Understanding of research approaches and methods, and experience in communicating research and evaluation findings.
Video editing experience.
Preferred: experience in working with diverse audiences, including in low-literacy settings.
