To define, implement, coordinate and supervise all operational communication activities and strategies according to MSF standards in the Mission. The FCM will build MSF’s visibility, acceptance and leverage inside Somalia and Somaliland and be reactive to emergency and crisis communications needs
Other tasks include, but not limited to:
Define the Somalia and Somaliland Communications Strategy and Objectives in an annual Country Communications Framework (CCF) and monitor results through relevant indicators.
Provide communications advice on public positioning
Promotes the visibility of the organisation, improving awareness of its principles and values, and sharing information on MSF activities among communities.
Identify key cross-cutting issues across MSF operations which are relevant to communications and advice on public positioning.
Develop guidelines for dealing with crisis communications through local media and have the capacity to remain reactive to emergencies.
Media Management/ Alert
Map and update the media landscape; collaborate with digital staff on social media mapping; and organize media events with the support of the East Africa office.
Build a network with key local, regional media and foreign correspondents.
Liaise with communications staff from other organizations/institutions; monitor and analyze the communication lines developed by actors of importance for MSF (authorities, armed groups, other NGOs…).
Conduct local media monitoring in Somali and English
Facilitate media interviews and visits to MSF projects.
Organize media/communications trainings and briefings with spokespersons and other staff.
Act as spokesperson when appropriate and approved.
Provides guidance and guidelines on how to deal with local media at time of crisis.
Create communication packages.
Produce and supervise the production of content, including leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, videos.
Support requests for communications content (data, information, quotes, testimonies, photos, videos).
Track and archive communications production on the country to build institutional memory.
Actively promote the diffusion of MSF content in the country and on international MSF platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) when it’s opportune and strategic.
Identify communications opportunities using MSF Communications Network or returning staff to pitch content on MSF activities in the country and other countries.
Manage, develop and supervise communications staff under his/her responsibility.
Produce regular reports with achievements, challenges, and priorities.
Produce and manage yearly communications budget strategy building
