Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) is a non-profit design and community development organization. We partner with under-resourced communities to advance equity and activate the unrealized potential in their neighborhoods and cities. We accomplish this mission through advocacy, research, planning, and built works.
We are looking for a Research Intern with interest and/or experience in impact research on risk and resilience issues for underserved communities. Skills and interest in appliedresearch, including data collection and analysis techniques, mapping skills, and reporting are required. As a Research Intern, you would support ongoing and future projects that involve research, planning and project implementation.
Support quantitative and qualitative research as part of KDI projects, and any other research-related projects and programmes;
Contribute to designing and implementation of surveys, including supporting training;
Support and contribute to research, writing and editing support on KDI research projects and any other projects;
Support aspects of fieldwork including data collection, analysis and presentation through methods described by KDI;
Support geographical mapping and spatial analysis tasks (QGIS and or ArcGIS skills preferred);
Participating in various stakeholder engagements including meetings as required;
Support preparation of quality written outputs including reports, academic papers, publications, analysis and presentations etc;
Assist the organization of community engagements, workshops, focus group discussions, or other events;
Support the preparation of relevant communication materials (such as brochures, flyers, posters, social media materials etc.);
Working closely with the Research Department and other KDI departments while reporting to the research coordinator/director.
Other relevant tasks as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelors or masters degree in a relevant course such as Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Disaster Risk Management, GIS Analysis, etc.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of KDI Nonprofit.
