Education and/or Experience:

  • KCSE Certificate.
  • Two years of comparable wait service experience preferred.
  • The ability to read, write and execute basic math skills.

  • Ability to time the service of each course.
  • Learns members’ names and their special preferences.

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required roles during emergency situations.

Job Summary (Essential Functions):

•        Provide food and beverage service to club members and guests.

Duties& Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware, and glasses
  • Arrange table setting/linen and maintain a tidy dining area
  • Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients, or potential food allergies)
  • Inform customers about the day’s specials
  • Offer menu recommendations upon request
  • Up-sell additional products when appropriate
  • Take accurate food and drinks orders using the captain orders to the kitchen/bar and later posting on the POS ordering software.
  • Ensure all receipts generated from the POS system are taken to the bar/kitchen
  • Check customers’ IDs to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Communicate order details to the Kitchen Staff
  • Serve food and drink orders
  • Check dishes and kitchenware for cleanliness and presentation and report any problems
  • Ensure all captain orders are signed by members before presenting the for back-office settlement.
  • Attend pre-shift meetings for updates and specials for the day or evening
  • Carry dirty plates, glasses, and silverware to kitchen for cleaning
  • Ensure members are well advised on shift changes before handover and ensuring the allocated area has been swiftly handed over.
  • Meet with restaurant staff to review daily specials, changes on the menu, and service specifications for reservations (e.g. parties/groups)
  • Follow all relevant health department regulations
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests
  • Ensure that all consumables (condiments/serviettes etc.) are requisitioned from the store before settling into the shift.
  • Adherence to health and safety standards at all times and ensuring one’s Food Handlers Certificate is valid.
  • Adherence to all uniform and grooming guidelines; to be professional in both appearance and mannerisms at all times.

Licenses and Special Requirements:

  • Food safety certification.
  • Of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Alcoholic beverage certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.
  • Push, pull or lift up to 25 kg.
  • Continuous repetitive motions.
  • Work in a hot, humid, and noisy environment
