Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) was established under the Sacco Societies Act, CAP 490B with a mandate to license, regulate and supervise the Sacco Sector in Kenya. The Authority is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and results oriented candidate to fill the position of Legal Officer (SASRA 6). The suitable candidate shall be employed on permanent and pensionable terms of service.
The primary role of the job is to provide assistance to the manager legal services in all litigation cases of the Authority.
a) Preparing and reviewing legal documents/instruments b) Preparing legal opinions and legal briefs c) Drafting legal documents, leases and contracts d) Undertaking research on specific legal areas; e) Identifying issues and areas for policy formulation and review; f) Ensuring compliance with the policy, legal requirements and provisions in all the undertakings of the SASRA g) Advising the SASRA on all legal matters h) Representing the SASRA in litigations and other legal matters; i) Safeguarding the interest of the SASRA in all legal matters; j) Liaising with the Office of the Attorney General on legal matters; and k) Ensuring safe custody of SASRA’s legal documents and records. l) Assisting the Corporation Secretary in ensuring timely circulation of Board Reports. m) Assisting the Corporation Secretary in carrying out the following:
Board induction and training
Updating the Board and Committee charters
Preparation of Board work plans and reports
For appointment, applicants must have the following qualifications:- a) Have Bachelor’s degree in Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution; b) Have Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law; c) Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya; d) Be a Member of the Law Society of Kenya. e) Have a valid practicing certificate. f) Have Proficiency in computer applications. g) Meet the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010
Other Mandatory Requirements
In addition to academic qualifications, experience and person specifications referred to herein above, all interested applicants must satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 by providing the following documents: i) Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. ii) Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board. iii) Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority. iv) Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. v) Report from an Approved Credit Reference Bureau.
