STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. University degree in Computer Science or engineering or other relevant field is highly desirable.

Work Experience: 1 or more years of total experience in object oriented design, development, testing and deployment of critical business applications, in a web/client-server environment.

 

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

 

The position is found in Country Office (CO), Regional Bureaux (RBs), and Headquarters (HQ).Supervised by the Head of Business Transformation and the senior lead developer, the incumbent will be part of the IT Solutions team.

 

 

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

The incumbent will work with requesting units and end users to map business processes, identify key functionality and stakeholders, develop rapid prototypes and create requirements documentation.

 

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop efficient software applications using SCRUM Agile Framework principles, corporate developer tools and enterprise standards for programming languages and frameworks;
  • Develop RESTful APIs;
  • Work in teams with other developers both within WFP and externally to deliver projects;
  • Ensure automated unit testing coverage;
  • Provide application support for existing software applications.

Activities and Deliverables

  • Participate in SCRUM activities;
  • Deliver solution components in agreed upon timeframes;
  • Ensure IT Security guidelines are applied in development activities;
  • Participate in code and peer reviews;
  • Conduct unit and regression tests on code developed with automated testing tools.
  • Complete change requests for CTM and SugarCRM applications.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Independent worker able to manage project timelines and priorities;
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Experience working in an international organisation or multicultural environment will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of WFP's Core mission and values.
  • Language skills: Fluent English and Kiswahili (spoken and written).

 

 

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

 

  • Programming Languages/Frameworks: Python, Django, Java, C++, HTML/XHTML, CSS, XML/XSL, (note: knowledge of PHP (4.X, 5.2X, 5.3X) is required to support legacy applications)
  • Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server
  • Scripting Languages: JavaScript (including JSON), Backbone, AngularJS, NodeJS, jQuery.
  • Experience working with Git or other revision control systems and defined coding standards is desirable
  • Experience working with Jira is desirable
