Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive interpretive reports of findings.
  • Attend to emergency cases after normal working hours and generate a concise radiological report for the case at hand.
  • Perform or interpret the outcomes of diagnostic imaging procedures including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), general radiography, mammography, or ultrasound.
  • Review or transmit images and information using picture archiving or communications systems (PACS).
  • Communicate examination results or diagnostic information to referring physicians or patients.
  • Evaluate medical information to determine patients' risk factors, such as allergies to contrast agents, or to make decisions regarding the appropriateness of procedures.
  • Learn and perform interventional image-guided procedures.
  • Provide counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, or alternative imaging.
  • Confer with medical professionals regarding image-based diagnoses.
  • Coordinate radiological services with other medical activities.
  • Document the performance, interpretation, or outcomes of all procedures performed.
  • Learn protocols to assist in interpreting images using computer-aided detection or diagnosis systems.
  • Learn the policies of the department to establish or enforce standards for the protection of patients or personnel.
  • Develop or monitor procedures to ensure adequate quality control of images.
  • Anticipate and recognize complications that may arise during or after procedures and knowing liaising with the emergency team when needed.
  • Obtain patients' histories from requisitions, electronic records, patient interviews, reports, or by communicating with referring clinicians.
  • Guide and teach students who may come to the department in their rotations and give an objective appraisal when required to.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have a Radiology Master’s Degree from a recognized university with Specialty recognition having with 2 years working experience.
  • Be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).
  • Be affiliated with a radiology professional association as the Kenya Association of Radiologists (KAR).
