Job details

Pursuant to the Constitution, particularly Articles 10; 232; 243; 245 (3); 246 (3) and chapter Six and Section 9, 11, 13, 14, 29, 30 and 34 of the National Police Service Act, the National Police Service Commission seeks to recruit Deputy Inspectors General and the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations who satisfy the provisions of the Constitution and the National Police Service Act, 2011, as well as the additional criteria below. Qualified persons may apply for the position of interest as shown below;


The Director of Criminal Investigations shall be a person who:-

(a) is a citizen of Kenya;

(b) holds a degree from a university recognized in Kenya;

(c) has had at least 10 years’ proven experience at management level of a public institution;

(d) has a distinguished career in their field;

(e ) has knowledge and experience in Criminal investigations or policing,

(f) has proven relevant experience in any of the following fields-

  1. Management;
  2. Law
  3. Economics
  4. Change management
  5. Finance
  6. Governance or
  7. Public administration; and

(g)Meets the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution.

Position Description

The Director of Criminal Investigation shall-

(a)be responsible for the effective and efficient administration and operations of the Directorate;

(b)provide strategic guidance and direction for the Directorate;

(c)be responsible for the preparation of the budget and planning for the directorate;

(d)monitor and evaluate the Directorate;

(e)undertake supervision of the Directorate;

(f)coordinate training, research and development in the Directorate;

(g)provide internal oversight of the Directorate;

(h)improve transparency and accountability in the Directorate;

(i)co-operate and engage in joint security operations with the Deputy Inspector-General of both the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police Service, other Government departments and security organs, where necessary, to ensure the safety and security of the public, and

(j)perform any other functions that may be assigned by the Inspector General under the National Police Service Act or any other law.


No person shall be qualified for appointment if the person:-

(a) has previously been convicted of any criminal offence;

(b) has violated the Constitution;

(c) is an undischarged bankrupt;

(d) has been adversely mentioned in any report by a Commission of Inquiry or any parliamentary Committee;

(e) canvasses directly, indirectly, by proxy, by emissary, by ethnic or clan whipping, by pressure groups, by other associations or in any other way;

(f) knowingly , willingly and blatantly lies, misrepresents, cheats and fails to disclose material facts.


  1. Applicants should attach their Curriculum Vitae, testimonials, samples of their three top writings (if any), or supervised projects or any other evidence of proven relevant expertise herein being sought;
  2. In addition to the qualification set out in the Constitution and the enabling Statute, applicants must further furnish clearance certificates from the following;-

(i) Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC);

(ii)Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);

(iii)Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP);

(iv)Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)

(v)Professional bodies (where applicable) to which the applicant belongs such as LSK, ICPAK, AAK, IEK, etc.;

(vi)Directorate of Criminal Investigations and

(vii)Credit Reference Bureau.
