As part of strengthening our operations, we are looking for a smart, creative, futuristic and ambitious individual to join the Editorial team in the following capacity
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This role is responsible for news output on all Standard Group’s broadcast channels: KTN News, KTN Home, Burudani TV, Farmers TV, Radio Maisha, Vybez and Spice.
Together with the editorial leadership and the Broadcasting Managing Director, the Broadcast Editor helps set the strategic aims and performance targets for KTN News, all news programmes on radio and television stations, as well as on the group’s digital platforms.
Coordinates the functioning of production and technical departments, the use of group-wide human and technical resources such as TV directors, producers, engineers, sound managers, technical teams and OB specialists to deliver quality content and on time.
Works with the News Hub to ensure that broadcast requirements are met on a regular and timely basis.
Acts as the reference point in the News Hub for all matters related to broadcast content, promoting best practice and introducing new content concepts.
Together with Senior Editors in the News Hub, contributes to the development of Standard Group’s editorial strategy across all platforms.
Works closely with Commercial to ensure the development and delivery of revenue-generating opportunities whilst strictly adhering to Standard Group’s editorial principles.
Acts as a collaborative and informative bridge between the News Hub and the Standard Group’s broadcast stakeholders.
Drives the establishment and growth of broadcast properties on digital platforms.
Manages staffing according to television and radio demands, ensuring that content on both Kiswahili and English are consistently produced to the highest quality.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• A Bachelor’s degree in a recognized field and a post-graduate qualification in journalism, mass communication or equivalent.
• A relevant Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 6 years in journalism and editorial leadership, preferably in broadcast.
SKILLS AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES
• Excellent journalistic and leadership skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
• Ability to make independent decisions.
• Well-developed analytical skills.
• Energy and ability to work irregular hours.
• Ability to work with a team of senior editors in a converged newsroom environment.
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills at all staff levels and at community level.
• High degree of integrity.
