Kibra, Lang'ata residents still experiencing water shortage

A section of residents of Kibra and Lang'ata constituencies are still experiencing water shortage despite assurances from the government that the problem was sorted.

Some of the residents who spoke to The Nairobian said the promise by Water Principal Secretary Dr Kiprono Ronoh that they will have a full supply of water has not been fulfilled.

Dr Kiprono made the pledge when he toured the area to inspect a concrete water pipe. The PS gave a seven-day assurance, which has since elapsed, prompting residents to raise concerns.

Mariam Abdallah, a resident of Southlands in Lang'ata said nothing had changed for the locals as the supply of water remains limited.

"To us, nothing has changed; we receive water sometimes once, twice or three times a week or nothing at all," complained Mariam.

Evarline Agola of Kibra said they are still experiencing water rationing despite the PS assuring that the taps will be flowing with water.

Dr Kiprono had on July 18 announced during a tour of the construction of the water pipe supplying water to the two constituencies that there shall be sufficient supply.

"In the next seven days, residents of Highrise, Lang'ata and some parts of Kibra will receive water on a timely basis without disruption. They will receive water three days per week depending on where the schedule affects them," said the PS.

Dr Kiprono blamed unscrupulous water dealers for interfering and disconnecting supply channels.

He said with a concrete pipe, it will be difficult to divert water.
